Hawaiian pancakes

Old fashioned pancakes

Not sure why one of “must try” local foods is pancakes and Belgium waffles  in Hawaii.

“Eggs ‘n Things” is the most popular and famous pancake shop on Hawaii, and perhaps in Japan.

They have  typical American diner menus, mainly for brunch. Egg, bacon, omelette, egg benedict, hamburger, fench fries, pancake, and waffles!

Huge, giant, too much foods, and far from beautiful presentation,  but super appetizing, honestly !!  LoL!

LoL!

Waffles – Gaufres-ワッフル & Caramel Sauce – fleur de sel

Waffles – Gaufre-

My 1st trial of Wallfes- Gaufres in Paris.   I learned a  new thing, oday,  the  Belgian Gaufres is using YEAST, and not baking powder.  So, the texiture is more denced like bread.  My viersion is much lighter, and quicker.  I use baking power, so you do not need resting-time.    One tip-  if you prefer more fluffy, mix egg very well until fluffy, or you can separate white and egg york. Then, Beat whites until moderately stiff, then mix with the dough.

Ingredients 6 people

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil ( or melted butter – better aroma)
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar  ( or vanilla suger 1pkg)
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat waffle iron. Beat eggs in large bowl with hand beater until fluffy. Beat in flour, milk, vegetable oil, sugar, baking powder, salt and vanilla, just until smooth.
  2. Spray preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour mix onto hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Serve hot.

Salted Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon gray sea salt, crushed or kosher salt

Directions

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat and bring to a boil, without stirring.  Boil until the syrup is a deep amber color. (If necessary, use a wet pastry brushto wash down any crystals on the side of the pan.)

Remove the sugar from the heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream. The mixture will bubble. Stir in the unsalted butter, and salt. Transfer the caramel to a dish and cool.

*The salted caramel sauce will keep in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Reheat before serving.
